What is an ABR (Accredited Buyers Representative?)

Buying a home is one of the largest investments a person can make. There are many reasons to choose a good real estate professional. When it comes to purchasing a home, choose your agent with care. A buyer’s representative can be the best choice.

A buyer’s agent is a real estate agent that represents the buyer in transaction. By law, they are required to keep confidentiality and work in the buyer’s best interest.

There are many qualities to look for in a buyer’s agent. Real Estate agents can represent either the buyer or the seller, but not in the same transaction. When a buyer is looking for a home, consider the following things to look for in a real estate agent.

Choose a real estate agent that works primarily with buyers. The best choice is one that has their ABR certification. That agent has gone the extra mile to develop their expertise and craft. When calling a real estate firm, always ask for a buyer’s agent to help you.

You will want a local agent that is familiar with the area in which you want to buy. This enables the agent to show you exactly the homes you want to view. They will be familiar with areas and neighborhoods that can suit your needs.

If possible, meet your agent at their place of business. Is there a support staff? Does the office appear professional and organized? If the agent works out of their home, test their call back skills. It is annoying and unprofessional for a buying agent not to return calls in a reasonable time frame. If this appears to be a problem initially, look elsewhere.

Experience is important for a real estate buyer’s agent. A rule of thumb is minimum two year period for acquisition of great buying skills.
