FEMA accepts floodplain study done by Marana

This is big news.....but unfortunately, most people didn't know about the issue or know what the potential impact was.

However, on March 30 the Town of Marana was notified that FEMA had accepted the floodplain study done by the town.  This whole saga began last year when FEMA intended to designate as much as 10 square miles of the town, that encompassed about 2000 exisiting structures and 10,000 lots to be in a 'Special Flood Hazard Area'.

What this would have done is made thousands of property owners buy extra flood insurance.  Thus making the cost of home ownership more expensive....and property values...well you know the story.

Well the town didn't agree - so they set out to complete their own study and prove the results to FEMA.  The study took them 7 months and they were successful in reducing the high-risk area down to 250 structures and 600 lots.

Kudo's to the Marana Town Council and Town Staff!
